Walkin' in Peckham

Made it through quarantine, fam! And guess what my prize was? A month of national lockdown!! What a time!! But I really can't complain when I have an army of prayer partners and FaceTime callers both here and across the pond. Plus a plethora of walking dates around Peckham!

Speaking of walking, I'm gonna get in shape QUICK living here. All you fit folk can ignore this,, but somehow I meet my move and exercise goals pretty much every day?? Just from walking?! I have definitely given some funny looks when my walk home from wherever we are would take say, an hour, and they're like, "Oh what a nice walk! Enjoy that!" LOL I'm tired.
Some of you hopefully caught my newest endeavor on the ol' insta stories: London dog stalking. Between my many walking dates and London exploring, I see LOTS of furry friends, and truly want to know if the people agree with me on the cute/ugly status of the popular breeds around. Most of them are adorable, but some I just don't understand. Make your voice heard here: 🐶 of London
Switching gears to talk life/ministry. Man, the Lord sure is good to me. It's often a hard thing to know if you're in the right place, but it's hard to fight it when you've received the kind of affirmation and encouragement I've been given here. In the short time span between my quarantine and the national lockdown, I was privileged to lead worship at the last evening service before we were back to Zoom. (Note for my Iron City folk, if wearing masks and distancing the whole service felt restrictive, here no one is allowed to even sing at a service in person!) After that service, several of the staff voiced that they felt I was doing exactly what I was meant to do. And that's just one of list of ways this staff has encouraged me, prayed for me, listened to me, and overall just brought me in.
So, how can you pray for me? I realize in my writing that I am reflecting a positive image of what this journey has been like so far, but of course, it has not been all sunshine (literally, there's a lot of rain). I am thankful for the many ways God has comforted and sustained me, and I would love for you to pray for me as I continue to learn to lean on him for my every need. One specific thing is to pray for me to have real opportunities to build up the church and minister to the people in my path here. I have received so much care from the people of All Saints, and for that I am grateful, but I believe that a big way I will start to feel at home here is in providing that same care for others. As a church, you can pray along with us that people would be invited not just to tradition, but instead invited to meet Jesus as we head into the Christmas season. He's good news for all people, amen?
Becoming British
Chocolate must be addressed. The Brits definitely believe their chocolate is superior on all accounts. They are definitely not wrong on the chocolate bar front. Hershey's has NOTHING on Cadbury, it's true. My main complaint is on the baking front. Who decided that chocolate chips should come only in tiny packages and with no semi-sweet option?? Even for the milk chocolate loyalists out there, milk chocolate chips are just wrong for cookies. Can I get a witness?!
Grocery stores, a breakdown. First of all, they're referred to as "food shops," so I gotta quit it with the "grocery" thing. The primary list includes Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's, Waitrose (if you're fancy), Lidl, and Aldi. Morrison's and I have become fast friends (she's basically Publix), and for all the Aldi fans (shout out to my favorite Aldi shopper, Kimberly), I can confirm that Lidl and Aldi are pretty much exactly the same. Both German, both discount, both limit spending on ads to reduce costs, etc.
A story: My flatmate was casually watching the Crown and the scene included an instrumental playing of God Save the Queen. What do I start singing? "From every mountainside, let freedom ring!" LOL someone kick the America out of me STAT.
Bonus story: Speaking of the Crown, Olivia Colman legitimately lives NEXT DOOR to our vicar, which means she lives basically down the street from me, soooo I'm best friends with the Queen. Get yourself to Peckham so you can be, too.
Signing off with a very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! I'll be whipping up a pecan pie to show these Brits a little bit of how it's done (but mainly so I can have pecan pie, the second best part of Thanksgiving next to ROLLS).
Cheers!
